she died of cancer in new york in 1981
The actress, portrayed by Annette Bening in 'Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool' premiering Sept. 12 at TIFF, made headlines for getting involved with the 13-year-old son (whom she later married) of then-husband Nicolas Ray. ...
She won a supporting actress Oscar (for 1952's The Bad and the Beautiful) and worked with legendary actors (Humphrey Bogart, Jimmy Stewart, Dorothy Lamour and Robert Mitchum) and directors (Fritz Lang, Elia Kazan, Vincent Minnelli and Nicholas Ray, whom she married).
Grahame's specialty was the film noir femme fatale. Unfortunately, she also made some fatal career moves. ... "It was the kind of thing Gloria Grahame the actress would have done in her movies," says biopic director Paul McGuigan. The gossip tsunami the tryst generated would only be exceeded nine years later when Grahame married Tony; she had two children with him and the most peaceful 14 years of any of her four marriages. (The union made Tony the stepfather to his half brother Timothy, the child Ray had fathered with Grahame.) ...

Despite only appearing for a little over nine minutes on screen, she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in MGM's The Bad and the Beautiful (also 1952);
she long held the record for the shortest performance on screen to win an acting Oscar until Beatrice Straight won for Network with a five-minute performance. ...
Often cast in film noir projects, Grahame was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Crossfire (1947), and later won the award for her work in The Bad and the Beautiful (1952).
After starring opposite Humphrey Bogart in In A Lonely Place (1950), she achieved her highest profile with Sudden Fear (1952), The Big Heat (1953), Human Desire (1954), and Oklahoma! (1955),
Grahame was born in Los Angeles, California. She was raised a Methodist. Her English father, Reginald Michael Bloxam Hallward (known as Michael Hallward) was an architect and author; her Scottish mother, Jean (or Jeanne) McDougall, who used the stage name Jean Grahame, was a British stage actress and acting teacher. The couple had an elder daughter, Joy Hallward, an actress who married John Mitchum (the younger brother of actor Robert Mitchum).
During Gloria's childhood and adolescence, her mother taught her acting. Grahame attended Hollywood High School before dropping out to pursue acting.[

Summary:

It's also the latest example of what's been a great year and what's certain to be a great awards season for documentary films.

If the Best Documentary race has a frontrunner right now, it's probably Dick Johnson Is Dead , Kirsten Johnson's hilarious, horrifying, heart warming tribute to her dementia-stricken father.

One of the most acclaimed films of the year, Dick Johnson won big at the Critics' Choice Documentary Awards in November, netting Best Documentary Feature and Best Director for Johnson.

While last year's Critics' Choice Best Director winners Julia Reichert and Steven Bognar (for American Factory ) went on to win the Oscar, 2018's big champ
