"Joan Fontaine's life: A Hollywood legend"

In the early 1940s, Joan Fontaine was one of Hollywood's most sought-after actresses. She had a string of hits, including "The Women" and "Rebecca," for which she won an Academy Award. But as her career progressed, Fontaine found it harder to land leading roles. In her later years, she turned to television and stage productions.

Fontaine was born in 1917 in Tokyo, Japan, where her parents were diplomats. The family moved to the United States when she was a child and settled in California. After studying at a drama school in New York City, Fontaine made her movie debut in 1939.

Fontaine was known for her delicate features and expressive blue eyes. She once said that she was "born with an inferiority complex," which may have contributed to her introverted personality.

Joan Fontaine was destined for a life in the limelight. She made her acting debut at the tender age of six, and by eighteen had starred in her first Oscar-nominated film. Fontaine's career as an actress spanned more than six decades, during which time she worked with some of the biggest names in Hollywood. She was married three times, and is the mother of one daughter. Fontaine passed away in 2013 at the age of 96.
